• '순수하고 깊이있는 음악과 정제된 화음으로 합창계를 리드하고 있는 국내정상의 유일 민간프로 합창단인 서울모테트합창단에서 창단 10주년을 맞아 연주한 헨델의 메시아전곡을 실황음반으로 출시한다.
  
  
• 서울모테트합창단이 그간 보여온 음악세계에 대해서 정당한 평가를 기대할 수 있는 이번 음반은 섬세하고 치밀한 완벽주의자"라는 평과 함께 정확한 비팅과 자연스럽고도 깊이있는 해석으로 차세대 음악계를 주도할 지휘자로 주목받고 있는 박치용의 지휘와 정상급 성악가 신지화(이화여대 교수), 김청자(한국예술종합학교 교수), 최상호(한국예술종합학교 교수), 특히 독일의 각종 무대에서 솔리스트로 활동중인 정록기(뮌헨, 볼프콩쿨 우승자) 등 국내외에서 활약하는 정상급 성악가와 프라임 필하모닉 오케스트라가 참여, 1999년 12월 6일 공연당시 음악애호가와 평론가로부터 호평을 받았다.
  
  
• 국내 첫 전곡 출반인 이번 메시아 음반은 국내뿐만 아니라 해외를 겨냥, 국내에선 잘 시도되지 않았던 원어공연을 시도함으로써 가사의 전달에 무리가 없으며 세계적으로 불고있는 정격연주의 흐름을 타고, 작곡 당시의 소규모 형태로 재구성, 연주하였다. 지휘자의 세심한 곡 해석과 통찰력 그리고 이를 전적으로 따르는 합창의 짜임새 있는 연주, 함께 참여한 솔리스트들의 탁월한 기량 등 세계시장에 내어놓아도 손색이 없는 완성도 높은 음반으로서 협소한 국내 클래식 시장의 활성화에 기여할 것으로 예상된다 .
  
  
• 오늘날 크리스마스시즌에 가장 많이 연주되는 '메시아'는 헨델 자신이 30회 이상의 '메시아' 공연을 직접 지휘하고 그 수익금을 고아원 등 어려운 사람들을 위해 썼다고 한다. 서울 모테트합창단의 '메시아' 음악회 역시 공연의 기본경비를 제한 수익금 전액을 추위에 떨고있는 북한동포들의 겨울나기를 돕는 데 사용하여 북한동포에게 사랑을 나누는 기쁨을 함께 가졌다.
